Film Review

I've read about the blind dead films for years. It sounded like a creepy idea, these blind zombies creeping about, tracking their victims using sound. Brilliant stuff. Then I saw The Ghost Galleon. I'm not sure where this film lies in the chronology but it's one of the lamest horror films I've ever had the displeasure of viewing. It makes me wonder how bad the others were and how bad I'd been misled about the series. We've got a bunch of zombies on a ghostly ship that moves in and out of another dimension. Good so far. We've got a group of models who were sent to this stretch of ocean to pretend they were shipwrecked. Pretty lame idea, but I went with it. We've got another group that arrives to rescue the models after they board the ghost ship. Suspense building. The zombies rise, looking like clothing store mannequins and moving about as fast. Apparently they were stored in coffins in the hold. Their arms are obviously stationary to better hold their rub…

Sometimes you have to know when to quit. Somethings just aren't meant to go on beyond a certain point. There are so many worthless and unnecessary sequels it's not even funny. When the story has been told it's time to jump ship, but some just never learn. Armando de Ossorio had great success with the first two entries in his 'Blind Dead' series and being drunk with that couldn't let the series end there. At first glance it looks like this will be another strong chapter in the series, but it doesn't take long for it to go downhill. You'll wish he'd stopped at two.Pros: The actors are able to rise above the awful script and give decent performances. Pretty good score that features the ever so creepy theme for our seeing impaired villains. The ship is a cool and spooky new setting. The Templars are as frightening as ever and Ossorio gets some good shots of them.Cons: Virtually no plot to hold this all together. Painfully slow pace. No one to r…

Plot Synopsis: Sporting goods magnate Howard Tucker sends two models in a speedboat into the Atlantic for a publicity stunt. Contact with the pair is lost, but not before they report being stuck in a fog & coming into contact with a 16th Century galleon. Along with another model, his modelling agent, a henchman & a scientist, Tucker organizes an expedition to find the missing models. They board the galleon where they encounter the blind zombies of the Knights Templar, who were banished to the sea for devil-worship.Film Review: The Ghost Galleon (known in some countries as either Ghost Ship of the Blind Dead or Horror of the Zombies) is the third film in Spanish director Amando De Ossorio's Blind Dead saga. The original film, TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD, was one of the finest zombie films that Spain has ever produced, only matched with the relatively recent effort REC.In keeping with the series' tradition, The Ghost Galleon is less a sequel than an outright remake. As w…
